Houston Texas Logo & Brochure

The Lonestar State. Intelligent Designs created to stick out among the rest

Digi Design Group, based in Ledyard, Connecticut, was recently tasked with creating a new logo and tri-fold brochure for Houston, Texas. The goal was to develop a brand identity that would accurately reflect the city’s rich history, culture, and diversity, while also highlighting its many attractions and benefits.

A City in need of a Logo and Tri-Fold Brochure

This project was created as a fictional training project by our group to allow our team to Brainstorm, Sketch, Design, & Conduct Research and deliver intelligent designs within the deadline given. The project given was that Houston needs to create a new Logo that exemplifies the city and to create a “Welcome to Houston” brochure to ensure visitors instantly recognize the new logo and are informed about all Houston has to offer.

The Process

The group began by conducting extensive research on Houston. They wanted to understand the city’s unique value proposition and what made it special. They also wanted to learn more about the city’s target audience and what they were looking for in a brand identity.
Once they had a good understanding of Houston, the Digi design group began to brainstorm logo concepts. They wanted to create a logo that was both visually appealing and meaningful. They also wanted to make sure that the logo would be versatile enough to work in a variety of different contexts.

Facts about Houston

  • Houston was founded on August 30, 1836 by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou.

  • Houston is the fourth most populous city in the nation, with an estimated July 2018 population of 2,325,502 (trailing only New York, Los Angeles and Chicago), and is the largest in the southern U.S. and Texas.  Houston is expected to become the third most populous U.S. city during the second half of the decade of the 2020s.

  • Greater Houston is the most ethnically diverse metropolitan area in the United States. At least 145 languages are spoken by city residents, and 90 nations have consular representation in the city.

Sketches, Colors, and Designs inspired to build up current.

The largest issue our team will encounter is being able to Manage their time properly to ensure this fictional band gets their designs in time to send off for production so their brochure is ready for distribution. The goal of this assignment is to allow our designers to sketch, illustrate, and graphically design a logo and create a tri-fold that speaks welcome to Houston.

The goal of this assignment was for our group to develop a cohesive new logo and tri-fold. This project will be given a 4 week deadline and the tri-fold must be given a visual mock-up for the city to see prior to approval.

  • Create a new original Houston Logo

  • Make a Welcome to Houston Tri-Fold Brochure

  • Meet Deadlines & Budgets.

The first step in this project for our team after Research and Planning was to begin sketching our logo ideas. Our Designer sketched over 20 very different logo ideas and narrowed it down to the top four for the band to choose from.

How the Logo and Brochure Highlight Houston’s Skyline

After several rounds of brainstorming and revision, the group finally settled on a logo that they felt perfectly captured the essence of Houston. The logo and brochure both incorporate elements of Houston’s skyline. The logo’s “H” is designed to look like a stylized skyline, and the brochure features several photos of Houston’s iconic buildings. The skyline is an important part of Houston’s identity. The city is home to over 97 skyscrapers over 427 feet tall, and the tallest building in the city is the JPMorgan Chase Tower, which rises 1,002 feet high. Houston’s skyline is a symbol of the city’s growth and prosperity.

The Designers went through just three revisions to complete this logo and the final logo has been completed in a black and grayscale and a fully colorized version of The Converters Logo.

Digi design group’s new logo and tri-fold brochure for Houston do an excellent job of highlighting the city’s unique features. The logo and brochure are both visually appealing and informative. They both highlight Houston’s skyline, its status as a major center for business and innovation, and its diverse population.

Our Approach to the Challenge

This project was a learning experience in that our group was able to design a band logo and their merchandise that was Intelligently designed to fit the needs of the band and their audience. This will allow for the City to begin a routine of updating their brochure quarterly to ensure new and current residents are informed of what Houston has to offer!
